Today I graduated from the Advanced Municipal Elected Officials Institute of Government. My coursework included Advanced Advocacy and Intergovernmental Relations, Advanced Leadership and Governance, Advanced Municipal Economic Development, Advanced Budgeting and Finance, and Public Safety Policy and Administration. This ongoing professional development helps me effectively serve our city and its residents. I look forward to learning more and applying those lessons to my work in Simpsonville.
The few, the proud: out of 271 municipalities in SC, only 18 are on the Municipal Association honor roll. And we’re one of them! That represents our Council’s commitment to continuous learning, so we can best serve our city. Here today to keep learning! #HLAD2023
Serve & Connect
As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve been attending the Municipal Association of SC Annual Meeting this week. One of the sessions that Councilman Lou Hutchings and I attended together was called “Connecting Law Enforcement with the Communities They Serve.” The speaker was Kassy Alia Ray who began the organization Serve & Connect after her husband, a police officer in Forest Acres, was shot in the line of duty. This woman is truly an inspiration. Her presentation was moving and motivating. She took the worst thing to ever happen to her, and she created something that helps law enforcement and communities across the state. Councilman Hutchings and I were very interested in how our Simpsonville Police Department might be able to pair with this organization. But we also reflected on how very fortunate we are in Simpsonville to have a police department that is already so focused on community efforts. Whether it’s events like the one I attended at Gateway Village Apartments, our upcoming National Night Out 2019, a summer kids camp, or the everyday small but important acts of service we never see and that they never brag about, our PD makes me proud to call Simpsonville #SimplyHome. National Night Out is August 6th at City Park; come out and meet these and other first responders for yourself. #SimplyServing
MASC Annual Meeting 2019
Simpsonville is #SimplyHome but today Councilman Lou Hutchings and I are in #yeahTHATgreenville at the Municipal Association Annual Meeting.
