Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day!

“No taxation without representation” was a slogan in the Revolutionary Period–one that summed up a chief complaint of our founding fathers.  They had no representatives in Parliament despite the fact that they were held to laws passed by that government.  Thus, they argued, this was a denial of their basic rights as English citizens.  Ultimately, the American Revolution led to independence from Britain and to the democratically-led government that makes America the great nation she is today.

Today we celebrate that independence, and as we do, let us remember to not take for granted the rights for which men and women throughout our history have fought.  One of those rights is the right to vote for those who represent us in our government–not just in the White House or the Senate or House of Representatives but also in our state and local offices.

Embrace that right! This November–get out and vote.  Encourage your friends and neighbors to do the same.

Of course, I’d be honored to have your vote and to represent you on the Simpsonville City Council.

Information on registering to vote is available at scvotes.org.
